A small theatre, one of the Tuscany jewels

This time we tell you the story of a special place in Radicondoli, in province of Siena, in occasion of a theatre season promoted by Libero Circuito, a network of independent artists.
Is called Teatro dei Risorti, and is one of the smallest of Europe, with 67 seats, and is managed by the Ràbel Association and guests show and workshops. In this period, you can go to the shows “Se non accade nulla” of Giacomo Fanfani (on 5th February) and “Andando in onda”, concert of RadiOrchestra (on 5th March), a quintet that plays music from the Twenties and Thirties in ironic way.
The origins of this small theatre are very interesting: was the theatre of the labour class, while the Teatro della Pappa, that no longer exists, was favorite by the aristocracy of Radicondoli. The Risorti, property of Crocchi family, was given to the Municipality during the Twenties, and his activity continued also during the World War Two.
The Theatre was also a cinema, a dance hall where the Filarmonica Beccucci, the citizen’s band, played. Until the end of Eighties, when the theatre closed, were screened movies and, during the Carnival, some parties were arranged. A funny anecdote about parties is that, when the orchestra said “rinfresco alla figura” (“offer a drink to the lady”), and the gentleman was forced to offer a drink to his lady. During the periods of misery a lot of people cannot pay, so embarrassing scenes often happened.
In 2007 the theatre was restored and now is a little hidden treasure of Tuscany. Situated in the historical center, at via Garibaldi n.1, is an attraction not only for light opera fans, but also for who loves the cultural traditions and desires to know the true story of romantic towns as Radicondoli.
