Guided tours to Siena treasures

In Siena every season is suitable to do an excursion, or a walk through an unknow borough or to join a guided tour, because also during winter there are many exclusive meetings for travellers. Thanks to the Touristic Guide Center, an association which provides planned tours with certified staff, an opportunity to know the history, the architecture, the archeology and the landscape beauty of Siena and its province.
The guide service is available in 16 different languages and the next tours are thematics, we suggest these to people that want to know more about Senese traditions and aren’t satisfied by books and pictures.
The first tour is about sculpture, on 17th February at Duomo; here the guide will tell the story of statues and bas-reliefs of the cathedral explaining which materials were used in Siena during Middle Age and which were the techniques, following the development until Renaissance age. This guided tour will help you to discover the secrets of craftsmen and artists, beyond to appreciate the Duomo masterpieces with a new gaze.
On Saturday 23rd there will be another kind of itinerary: have you ever known the differences among grass and plants which grow in flowerbeds and on the Siena walls? If you have children you can follow our advice about the itinerary “San Francesco in Siena”, on Sunday 3rd March at 10:30 am, starting from Piazza San Francesco: the spark is the Senese satys of the Saint from Assisi, in fact he planted here his walking stick from which, according to the legend, was born an holm oak, then the Chiesa dell’Alberino. The wood of this tree, furthermore, was miraculous.
From miracles to love stories: you can discover the story of White Dame, a guided tour with a theatrical performance. Is about Pia de’ Tolomei, a Senese woman quoted also by Dante in his Divine Comedy: the performance dedicated to her is a successful event that allows to live some historical happenings that are impossible to retrace.
