In the last years there was an historical reconstruction that had a positive feedback, the “Mercato nel Campo” in Siena, a local handicraft market that reminds to the Middle Age, when craftsmen sold their products in Piazza del Campo. Now tourists and Senese people can join this market on 15th and 16th December.
The amazing set of Piazza del Campo, in fact, will host 160 exhibitors that will have the best of local excellences, a great chance for your next Christmas gift.
Authenticity is the key, because at the Market you will find unique flavors, that give pleasure to palate and are a perfect sample of Tuscan traditions: Cinta Senese cold cuts, homemade pasta, olive oil, honey, saffron, almonds, spices and aromatic herbs, sweets like ricciarelli, panforte and cavallucci; the DOC wines and craft beers that now are trendy.
However at “Mercato nel Campo” there will be also stands with handmade items in glass, wood, wrought iron, artistic ceramics, fashion jewellery in silver and semiprecious stones. If you want to buy Christmas decorations, here you can find also useful items to put up a creche and a Christmas tree, an original idea to embellish your house with Siena souvenirs. During the Market is scheduled a guided tour, on 11:00 am and 4:00 pm, about “Siena from Middle Age to now: markets and venues”, an itinerary dedicated to the origins of the commercial activities in Siena and the story of craftsmen starting from the shops signs.
To join the tour reservation is required (the tickets costs 5 €) directly at the Info Point in Piazza del Campo.
For a “medieval” weekend choose the historical center of Siena: with delicacies tastings and special gifts you’ll be ready for the next holidays.
