The Federagit tour guides organized four events dedicated to tourists and Siena residents: thematic tours that allow you to see venues not usually included in the itineraries of the historic center.
The first tour will be on February 21st at 10:00 am at Villa del Pavone, built in the first half of the XIX century, the first example of the building with a romantic style in Siena.
Did you know that right here rise two sphinxes, made by the sculptor Luigi Magi, located on the garden gate?
The villa, in fact, hosts inside an Egyptian living room, decorated with hieroglyphs that refer to ancient Egypt. The expert guide will explain you the origins of this exotic place, located a short distance from Porta Romana.
On February 28th, the guided route will take place in a venue really unusual: the cemetery of Laterino, the first built in Siena in the modern era. You’ll be surprised by the originality of some graves, like the chapel car-shaped or the statue of a child built in imitation of wooden structures.
On March 6th, the itinerary will include the podere del Rastrello and the casa del Mutilato at La Lizza, characterized by Art Nouveau style.
Thanks to the guided tour, part of the initiative Turisti per Casa 2016, the participants will discover the most important evidences of the World War First.
Marathons and special itineraries in February
About sporting events, the “Terre di Siena Ultramarathon” concerns three towns in the province of Siena, where it will take place 3 competitive competitions on Sunday 28th February: the 50 km marathon from San Gimignano, the 32 km marathon from Colle Val d’Elsa and the 18 km half marathon from Monteriggioni.
The uniqueness of these marathons consists in crossing the white and paved roads of the Via Francigena and the Senese countryside, extraordinary landscapes whose beauty will inspire the athletes.
However, those who cannot run a marathon can join a non-competitive walk of 8 km, starting at 10:00 am from Piazza del Campo.
This walk includes all the main spots of the historic center.
This is the website of the event, which will open the Sport Siena Week, which will run until 22ndMarch: www.terredisienaultramarathon.it.
On Saturday 27th February will take place the free guided tours devoted to an important topic for Siena: the paths of water used for water supply of the city.
In this case the visitors have two alternatives: the tour of the Museum Complex Santa Maria della Scala (8 visits scheduled during the day), where you will explore the underground, tanks and wells used in the past to supply water to the whole city; or visit the National Archaeological Museum (at 3:00 pm or 4:30 pm).
To book send an email to ultramarathon.siena@uisp.it or call 334-6988773 or 0577-271567.
We are sure that even the most discerning travelers will be pleased by the wide selection of events planned in the city during the last winter glimpse.
