Two prestigious Senese traditions are meeting, and find a perfect synthesis in a very known person: Andrea Degortes nicknamed Aceto, the jockey who won the Palio 14 times, now manages the Millevini restaurant, inside the Enoteca Italiana.
These are the origins of Aceto: Degortes, born in Sardinia and then moved to Tuscany, is called “King of the Square”, ran the Palio 58 times until 1996, when he retired and began to manage a stud farm.
Now he directs the Millevini restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, that offers a 0 mile menu. It means that the products are all from the surrounding countrysides, with the warranty of the high quality of dishes. In the kitchen of the restaurant there is the chef Alberto Degortes, son of Andrea, that has been working in catering from many years.
The menus will be based on meat and cheese, with fish tasting (coming from Tyrrhenian sea): a tasteful opportunity to combine food with the 1600 different wines of the Enoteca Italiana. Here, in fact, the visitors can admire the exhibitions of Italian wine and have a break at the restaurant.
Aceto, famous also for his participation to the fourth edition of the reality show L’Isola dei Famosi, is an intermediary between the winning traditions of Palio (with his competitiveness, the rivalry among contradas, the passion for horses) and the regional delicacies that attracts worldwide tourists. Don’t miss the chance of a good dinner with a jockey that is part of Siena history!
