Exclusive music on stage in Siena: let’s have a look at the next events, with some tips to spend nice evenings during winter. The Chigiana Musical Academy periodically plans classical music concerts at the amazing Palazzo Chigi Saracini and also at Teatro dei Rozzi.
Is useful to know that the winter concerts have taken place since 1923 and the teachers of Academy are internationally renowned, in fact students from more than 50 different countries come here to study music. This institution is a landmark for music lovers; furthermore here was born the Settimana Musicale Senese, an event dedicated to the promotion of some Italian composers (which were less known at the beginning of XX century) as Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Galuppi, Caldara, Salieri, Rossini and Donizetti.
About current events, on Friday 1st February there will be the tribute to Bach for the 90th edition of Micat in Vertice, a concert played by the cellist Enrico Dindo which will perform the suites number 3 and 5 by Bach, composed between 1718 and 1723. Bach was inspired from some cellists friends for these suites, created during a very important period in Bach’s life. Dindi has already played with prestigious orchestras as BBC Philarmonic and famous orchestra leaders as Riccardo Chailly, Riccardo Muti e Mstislav Rostropovič, the concert is scheduled at Palazzo Chigi Saracini at 9:00 pm.
The following week, on 8th February, don’t miss the Orchestra della Toscana directed by Marco Angius and with Stefano Bollani at piano. The well-known pianist will play improvisations by piano and some compositions by Ravel and Stravinskij, the stage will be the Teatro dei Rozzi, at Piazza Indipendenza 15, one of the historical venues of Siena. The next concerts will be again at Chigi Saracini, on 15th February with Jerusalem String Quartet, which selected music by Wolf, Mozart and Smetana, while on 1st March the guest will be Luis Bacalov, one of the best composers of soundtracks.
In Siena he will introduce the Baires concerto, a journey inside the history of Buenos Aires in music, a tribute to his roots, that recalls the most important moments of his career. Join these events is a way to discover the melodic side of Siena and enjoy the music, which here isn’t a background, although is an essential part of the travel, as the paintings and the sculptures.
