We suggest to add a visit, among the upcoming events of summer, to your personal itinerary, a stopover at an art city which has in common with Siena a long tradition and a strong attraction for elegance: Montepulciano, the land of Noble Wine and jewel of Renaissance.
During your stay in Siena, in fact, you can go to this town in Val di Chiana, that features a different landscape compared with the rest of Tuscany, because here there are holm oaks woods, Scots pines and chestnut trees; besides an important cultural meeting is hosted here yearly, the International Art Workshop that each summer involves all the people and houses artists from all over the world.
On the 8th June the exhibition “Giorgio de Chirico – Portraiture: Figure and Form” will open at Poliziana Fortress, a collection of 68 artworks by the genius who invented the Metaphysical Painting. We can retrace 50 years of the De Chirico career, including works like the Naked Self-Portrait (1945), the Portrait of Isa in Pink and Black Dress (1934), the Mannequin, represented by Hector and Andromache (1970), the renowned Italian Piazza theme, with Italian Piazza with Statue of Cavour (1974) and the Archaeologists, portrayed in The Thinker (1973) and the amazing Meditator (1971).
The Poliziana Fortress, location of the exhibition, rises at the highest point of the town, its origins date back to VIII century, however it was totally redesigned in 1885 and chanded its role becoming an exhibition area. You can see the exhibition within 30th September, we recommend to do a Noble Wine tasting, celebrated in the XVII century by the poet Francesco Redi, that defined Montepulciano as King of Wines.
