One of the main attractions in Tuscany, especially in province of Siena, is the historical reconstruction, an event to remember a specific period or something really important for the prestige and the growth of a city. You could see many events of this kind that involve all the inhabitants, like the Palio di Siena, but each one has its origins and its peculiarity.
This time we recommend Colle di Val d’Elsa, where on the weekend of 8th and 9th June will take place “Rinascimento di Colle” (The Renaissance of Colle), a reenactment of the proclamation of Colle as as city in 1592. Ferdinando I de’ Medici kept his promise to give a diocese to the city, where Usimbardo Usimbardi were elected bishop. The reenactment recalls the main situations with a costume parade, the beauty of this town remained almost unaltered over centuries. The schedule of the festival includes street artists, jesters, acrobats and jugglers at the squares and the streets of Castello, the highest part of Colle di Val d’Elsa; the “Rinascimento di Colle” will begin at 5:00 pm until midnight.
Don’t miss the chance to see live shows of falconers, which fly hawks, falcons, vultures and eagle owls with great prowess; or the theatrical show by the Teatro dei Venti company, with fire-eaters and giant masks.
The Finis Terrae are a band which plays Renaissance music with the aim of remind to that historical period. During festival, furthermore, the Archeological Museum and the Civic Museum of Sacred Art in Colle will be open at free entrance. Our advice is to plan an holiday in Siena and an excursion outside the city in Colle di Val d’Elsa, it will be a travel through centuries, without to give uo the modern comforts and take away at home a deep and unique memory.
