If you are looking for a good reason to visit Siena in springtime, in addition to the charming landscape, the relaxing atmosphere, the food and wine specialties and plenty of artistic masterpieces, we suggest you the initiative Amico Museo 2016, which consists in a series of special openings, workshops and guided tours in many places in Tuscany.
Siena is one of the venues that host events (which will last from May 14th to June 5th) with both well-known attractions, both places often not mentioned by the travel guides, who will welcome the travelers who want to discover the “hidden” treasures in town.
Furthermore, on May 21st, there will be the Night of Museums, an event that involves all the European cities offering visits to an extraordinary heritage. People will have the opportunity to see museums and historic buildings in unusual opening hours.
How many of us, after all, want to be able to see an exhibition or an archaeological site in the evening, at the end of a day full of amazing events?
Here you will find some information about the events planned in the province of Siena: www.museisenesi.org/eventi/amico-museo-2016.

What to do at the Night of the Museums in Siena
Firstly, you can visit a place always included in a standard route, the Civic Museum at Palazzo Comunale, which will open on Saturday, 21st May from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm allowing tourists and residents to visit for free one of the most important places for the town’s artistic heritage.
Two very exclusive places, usually difficult to visit, are the two museums of the contrade which will open on the occasion of the Night of Museums, offering a guided tour: the museum of the Contrada of the Tortoise, at Via Tommaso Pendola 21, and the museum of the Contrada of the Tower, at via Salicotto 36.
All Siena contrade have a museum that shows the vital importance of local traditions and belonging that every Senese citizen feels. It’s a set of values and rituals not easy to explain, so this kind of tour is a chance not to be missed.
Among other things, the Tower Contrada Museum will also host an exhibition of contemporary art, Cavalli nel sole (Horses in the sun), by artists belonging to the Contrada.
We recommend to tourists who love the science a visit to the Natural History Museum of the Academy of Fisiocritici, which will be open on Wednesday 18th May 18 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at free entry, and on Saturday 21st until 11:00 pm with 5 different events, including a guided tour, a scientific demonstration with the experiments carried out by the Fisiocritici in the XVII century and a guide to the observation of the starry sky.
A place perhaps less known which we have already recommended is the Synagogue of Siena, located at via del Linaiolo 17. The tour scheduled for the Night of Museums will be focused to the origins of this synagogue, which dates back to 1786.
If you want to join an even more peculiar visit, on 22nd Sunday 22 at1 0:30 am, you can visit the old Jewish cemetery of Siena, in this case a reservation is required by calling 0577/271345 or by mail to sinagoga.siena@coopculture.it.
Take advantage of this weekend to enjoy some of the best attractions in town, this season is ideal for long walks and unusual paths.
