We picked some of the best festivals of summer 2013 in Siena and surroundings, to help you to plan your stay in Tuscany in the next weeks: the Terre di Siena Festival gathers all the following events, a sort of journey through the arts.
If you wish to know what to do in Siena during summer, you can begin from the Chianti Festival (until 16th July), hosted in four towns (Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Gaiole in Chianti, Radda in Chianti) in Chianti area, where you can enjoy concerts of world music, blues and rock, a chance to admire the historical squares of these small towns renowned for wine production. In Torrita di Siena there will be the 25th edition of Torrita Blues, a meeting for blues fans, recommended to who wants genuine thrills surrounded by charming landscapes as Torrita hills.
In July will starts Siena and Stars, a series of concerts at Piazza Duomo: here you will see Mario Biondi and Pino Daniele, the dancers of Teatro dell’Opera of Rome, and the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club; the concerts are scheduled from 10 July to 2nd August. Another kind of music in Montalcino, with Jazz & Wine, special events hosted at the Fortress of Montalcino, where to taste the extraordinary Brunello and see jazz concerts.
In August there will be a festival in Chiusi, near Siena, the Orizzonti, that includes teathrical performances, dance and circus shows, with some national previews: a nice chance to visit this town full of archeological finds from Etruscan age, dysplayed at the National Archeological Museum. An advice for a breathtaking show at the historical square of Montepulciano: from 11th to 15th August will take place the Bruscello Poliziano, a festival of popular theatre. Piazza Grande is the ideal set for a show, this year it will be Tristan and Isolde.
