There is time enough to plan your next Easter holidays and Siena, of course, is an amazing destination for relaxing stays in the greenery of Tuscany. Before to start your trip, follow our tips about events during the Easter and a tip on a typical sweet to taste at the end of an ideal dinner.
Probably you already know the Santa Maria della Scala, the museum complex which rises in an ex Medieval hospital, is very peculiar thanks to its spaces: big rooms and narrow hallways, galleries dug into tuff and rooms with the vault made of bricks. Here, from 25th March to 1st April, there will be a series of special guided tours and thematic workshops, which allow you to explore all the museum and discover the historical oddities about its collections.
The 25th March is the New Year’s day of Siena, celebrated until 1749, now came back with an event planned by the Magistrate of Contradas at the Hall of Globes inside Palazzo Comunale, at 5:30 pm. The Santa Maria della Scala will be open from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm and two guided visits are scheduled (at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm), dedicated to the Traesure of Santa Maria della Scala, especially the relics dated back to XIV century.
From thursday 28th to 1st April there will be guided tours everyday and on Easter Monday you can choose between two meetings, at 11:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Who likes to travel by train and loves the romantic steam trains should try the experience of TrenoNatura (Train Nature), an itinerary on board of a train which travels through the Tuscan countryside. We suggest to visit the official website to see the complete schedule (trenonatura.terresiena.it), our advice is to book a trip on the steam train which will start on Easter Monday from Siena to Buonconvento, a small town where it takes place an antiques market, ideal for your souvenirs!
The excursion will begin at 9:00 am and will finish at 5:30 pm in Siena, an original way to spend a spring-like day in lesser known venues, full of charm like the city of Palio. If you will go in a restaurant or in a Senese typical pastry shop, ask for Ricciarelli: is a sweet with orienatl origins, in fact Ricciardetto della Gherardesca, coming back from Crusades, imported the recipe of these biscuits (marzipan, eggs, almonds, candied fruits and vanilla) “crimped” as the slippers of sultans. It’s better to taste these sweets with a DOC wine like Moscadello di Montalcino or Vinsanto.
Spring is just begun, Siena is waiting for you, ready to welcome many worldwide travellers.
